It’s not that you don’t care or that you don’t want to be a good friend, however, be careful that you’re not involved with someone who has a pattern of constantly being depressed or complaining. The holidays are traditionally a time when people are at their happiest, most generous and in good spirits, however, many people can’t see past their own issues to focus on anything else and this can be a major downer. Take the time over the holidays to get offline and spent time with family and friends or working for a charity or meeting people in places other than online. After the holidays are over, you can resume your online dating, and by then, hopefully the dust will have settled from the storms of the disgruntled. A Bad Day When you are having a bad day or are facing an issue in your life that has you in a funk, it may be best to give online dating a rest. Using written words, such as in an email or chat room, its
very difficult to really understand some of the finer nuances of what a person is trying to communicate and your bad day may get in the way, no matter how hard you try to avoid it. Especially in the beginning of an online relationship, it is best to avoid spilling your problems out to the person or people you are dating. This will be a major turn-off for most people and can give them a very incorrect perception about you. Yes, everyone has bad days and it entitled to them, however, complaining or venting about a particular issue can give the impression that you are needy and can make your date feel like they are going to become your personal dumping ground. This is not a pleasant thought and most people will probably bow out gracefully after while leaving you to wonder why. Having a bad day and letting the world know is counterproductive to developing an online relationship. In the same way it would work in a person-to-person relationship, put your best foot forward and wait until mush later to air the dirty laundry. Just like you would do at a job or at another place where you are with people who aren’t your close, personal friends, avoid online dating when your bad day seems to overwhelm you and go back when you feel like you’ve gained a little perspective on the situation.
