To Succeed with online dating you need to have a good online dating profile. There are millions of people out there on internet dating sites and they all have a profile. You need a well written profile, one the stands out and sets you apart from everyone else. A well written profile will excite and interest future prospective dates and give them a reason to pick you.

Make sure you use an up to date photo of yourself, the best one you have. Don't use a photo that is old, you might look a lot younger in that photo but when you meet face to face, your date could be very disappointed. Some people do grow better looking as they get older, if that is you then you are one of the lucky ones. Consider having a photo professionally done, it is relatively inexpensive and might improve your chances.

When writing your profile write as you would talk to someone, you will find it a lot easier that way. To speak candidly about yourself can be difficult for some people, but you need to be honest when writing your profile. If you don't know where to start then you're not alone, so don't worry, everyone faces the same fears when it comes to writing such things. I for one hate forms especially Tax forms or Government forms, I put them off to the last minute.

The first thing to do is just jot down a list of things about yourself. A small list is fine you can expand on it later. So what is about you that makes you special? Nothing! Oh no don't think like that, everyone has something that makes them special!

What are your interests, what do you like to do in your spare time, do you have a job that is unusual, do you have any pets, what sort of music do you like? The answers to these questions go to make up your list.

Try to see yourself in a positive light. How do you think about yourself?, do you put yourself down with the language you use? Listen to teenagers and how they talk to each other, no wonder many of them lack self-esteem. I have a saying, when people tell be to be good, you know, at the end of the day you're going home and one of your mates says “be good dude” I always reply “Of course I'll be good cause I don't know how to be mediocre!” It may seem a little arrogant but it is one of the ways I keep feeling good about myself no matter what life throws at me.

Now it is time to get down to business. You have your list now we are going to turn it into a profile. Take the items on your list one at a time and expand on them. Write as

Saying that you love movies doesn't tell the reader anything about you at all because 99% of the population like going to the movies. So Instead say I like Horror movies, or cowboy movies, or whatever type of movies you like. The same when talking about music, there is a huge difference between classical and hip hop. So take your general list and expand on it and you will find you soon have a profile.

Show you have a sense of humour by making your profile funny, don't just say you have a good sense of humour. In my research I have seen some very funny and clever profiles. If you feel you can write one as good do so. Look at what others have to say in their profiles it will give you some ideas.

Avoid writing about the past, your ex lovers or anything that might suggest that you still have some baggage. Let it go, and if you can't then perhaps give yourself more time. In some cases you might need to seek help. If you have been through a break up it is natural to feel a sense of loss, this is normal, you don't need to rush of to the Doctor for some tranquillizers, give your self some time to get over it.

While you should have high expectations, don't have them so high to eliminate almost all possible suitable partners. You never know what is in the future, love makes no sense, that's why they call it “falling in love” so keep an open mind if you can.

This is just my personal opinion, but if you are writing a profile, don't be too explicit even if your writing one for an adult site. I find the really explicit profiles a bit sleazy and a real turn off, if you want to get down and dirty there will be opportunity as you get to know someone. I might be out of step with everyone's thinking on this one, but I think it is good to keep some mystery in a relationship.

By now you should have some idea on how to write your profile. Be honest, be specific in your language, be yourself and have fun. Write the best profile you can and get a friend to go over it with you. Look at other profiles to get some ideas.

If you really don't feel you can write a profile you can always have one written by a professional, it is inexpensive and might just give you that edge you are looking for.
